Description
The PC817 is a general-purpose optocoupler that contains an infrared LED optically coupled to a phototransistor in a 4-pin package. It provides galvanic isolation between input and output, allowing digital or analog signals to be transferred while protecting low-voltage logic from high voltages, ground loops, or electrical noise. The family includes through-hole DIP, wide-lead, and SMT gullwing lead-forms and offers several CTR ranks so designers can select parts for different gain/drive conditions. Because the device uses a transistor output stage it is ideal for I/O isolation, noise suppression in switching circuits, and signal level translation between different potentials or impedances. The PC817 is UL-recognized for isolation (UL1577) and specified with high input-to-output isolation (5.0kVrms), moderate speed (µs-range response), and broad temperature/storage ratings—making it suitable for general industrial, consumer, and communications equipment.
Features:
- Optically coupled LED → phototransistor design.
- 4-pin package (DIP and SMT options).
